Carpet Pad

Most people make mistakes when looking for a carpet pad. Most types of carpets on the market today actually need carpet pads in order to keep your carpet in tip-top shape. Each time that you buy a new carpet, the company that supplied you with that carpet should let you know about carpet pads. If they do not mention getting a carpet pad for your new carpet – then you should definitely ask about getting some.

To help you understand the various types of carpet padding available, a brief rundown of each carpet-pad type will be given. First of all, you have a waffle-type carpet pad which is fairly common among most carpets. A waffle carpet pad is able to help your carpet maintain an optimal level of thickness. If you have a relatively old carpet, chances are good that you need a waffle carpet pad. Most new types of carpets require different carpet padding – so do not look for waffle-pads unless your carpeting is pretty darn old. Waffle pads tend to have many problems due to the fact that they are not very durable. It doesn’t take much pressure for the clay in the waffle-types to completely fall apart.

Another common type of carpet pad is made up of slab-rubber. These carpet pads are pretty darn durable. They will not breakdown as quickly as some of the more junky carpet pads (e.g. waffle-pads). If you need to replace your carpet pads, it is recommended that you always check out slab-rubber pads because they are able to withstand a lot of pressure for a lot longer time than most. If you are not going to replace your entire carpeting with slab-rubber, it is recommended that you at least buy some for areas of your carpeting that get the highest number of foot impressions on a daily basis.

Many people like fiber carpet pad prices because they are reasonable and fiber does a nice job at preventing damage. Most commonly, these types of carpet pads are used for under large carpets and also under wool rugs. The fiber padding is made up of various synthetic fibers that have been bound together. Though this isn’t the optimal pad for high traffic areas, it does a good job at preventing your carpet from getting damaged.

If you have a berber carpet, you may need to rethink your carpet pad price range. This is due to the fact that select models of berber carpeting require you to buy customized or unique forms of padding. Always get the opinion of a carpet professional before installing a carpet pad that is not compatible with berber carpeting. If you install the wrong type of carpet pad, this could cost you a lot of extra time and money. Even if you are a do-it-yourself type person, you should still get the opinion of someone to figure out whether your berber carpet needs a customized carpet pad.

If you are looking for a foam carpet pad, you should definitely check into “frothed-foam.” This type of carpet padding is made up of a very strong chemical that is able to help prevent your carpet from sagging or looking droopy in the highest-traffic areas. This type of foam (frothed) also has a pretty darn long life-expectancy as well. You should definitely check into this stuff if you are considering getting a new type of carpet pad installed.

Another type of padding that you should avoid is carpet padding made of prime-foam. The carpet pad prices for prime-foam padding are generally low due to the fact that they are so unreliable. Prime-foam carpet padding tends to break down very easy just like waffle-pads. In any area where people frequently walk on the carpet, the foam breakdown will be especially noticeable. Since most people do not want an ugly looking place on their carpet, they usually look for something more reliable than foam as a carpet pad.

I hope that by understanding a few basic carpet pad types that you are able to successfully choose one that works well for you and your carpeting. Some carpets may require a type of carpet padding that was not mentioned, so always be sure to talk with a carpet-expert to figure out which carpet pad will be optimal for your home. Carpet pads all vary in effectiveness depending on the type of flooring you have as well. You should always look into either “frothed-foam” or “slabbed-rubber” because these are two of the longest lasting types of carpet padding. Best of luck with repairing or installing your new carpet pads!
